After a series of validations, the Laoag City Population Commission (PopCom) announced that the family of Mr. and Mrs. Monico M. Domingo of Barangay La Paz has been named the model family for 2005.
Ms Felicitas Santiago, city PopCom officer, said the winning parents are both fisherfolks who have 10 children—all of who are now professionals, working not only in the country but overseas as well.
Santiago also described the family as tested by life’s hardships but the parents strove hard to send their children to earn a degree, and to have a better chance in life.
The trials the family underwent, Santiago added, only made their success all the sweeter.
Other winners in the model family search are the family of Mr. and Mrs. Avelino D. Mangaoang Sr. of Barangay Pila, first runner-up; and the family of Mr. and Mrs. Cesar T. Asuncion of Barangay Cavit.
According to Santiago, the top three winning families had a very close fight during the validation as they are all successful in their own rights.
The criteria used in the search were self-reliance, 40 percent; health and sanitation, 35 percent; and values and spirituality, 25 percent.
The top three winning families will receive a plaque of recognition. A resolution from the Sangguniang Panlungsod will also be given to them.
The other seven finalists in the model family search are Mr. and Mrs. Jose M. Duldulao of Barangay Apaya; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Fermin of Barangay 9; Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Bartolome of Barangay 3; Lt. (Ret) and Mrs. George Corpuz of Barangay 52-A; Mr. and Mrs. Toribio Martin of Barangay 58; Mr. and Mrs. Rodolfo Aquino of Barangay 1; and Mr. and Mrs. Leonardo Balicoco of Barangay 30-B.
The finalists would also be given certificates during the awarding ceremonies on September 30 at the Laoag City Auditorium with Mayor Michael V. Fariñas serving as guest of honor and speaker.
Last year’s model family was the family of Mr. and Mrs. Cesario Raquiño Sr. of Barangay Gabu.
