LC traffic division holds surprise inspection of trikes

Staff Reporter

IN ORDER to fully implement the Tricycle Code of Laoag City, city traffic division chief SPO4 Danilo Andres said they have been conducting surprise check-up operations of tricycles around the city.

Andres said the spot inspection includes check up of tricycle lights, papers of the tricycle as well as the driver, the use of slippers, sleeveless shirts and masks, which are prohibited by the said code.

The traffic chief said corresponding penalties will be meted out to violators of the tricycle code, be they barangay tricycles or those operating in the poblacion area.

In line with this, tricycle drivers have been urged to secure their identification cards. Said cards are good for three years. Applicants are required to undergo seminar, which is a refresher on the local traffic rules and regulations, at the Traffic Division Office.

These IDs, Andres said, would help them identify the person driving the tricycle.

During some surprise checks, tricycle drivers were again advised to charge the allowed fare rate as traffic division records have shown that most of the violations have been on overcharging and their refusal to convey passengers.

Should the riding public be overcharged or refused conveyance by tricycle drivers, Andres said they should immediately report this to his office or at any Police Assistance Centers (PAC).

The tricycle drivers were also reminded to follow the loading and unloading zone rules in the city as Andres explained that there are drivers who ignore traffic signs when they see that there is no enforcer in sight.

Andres also appealed to other vehicle drivers to follow traffic rules and regulations in the city.
