Another feather has been added to the cap of Laoag City after the Roque B. Ablan Elementary School topped the recent regional National Achievement Test. Later, the same school placed third in the national level of the same achievement test. According to Trinidad Madamba, assistant city Department of Education (DepEd) superintendent, the Ablan Elementary School earlier topped the city division with a score of 84.72, paving the way for its participation in the regional and national levels of the said test. Other Laoag City schools that figured in the top 10 are: Gabaldon Elementary School (84.52), Cavit Araniw (83.48), Laoag Central (83.28), E.F. Siazon (80.96), Suyo (79.76), Casili (79.73), Shamrock (78.34), Buttong (78.27), and Calayab (77.95). The National Achievement Test included the major subjects in elementary level such as Math, English, Science, Filipino and HEKASI. With this result, Madamba said it showed that the Grade VI teachers of the schools in the top 10 are doing their best in teaching their pupils. However she also called on to the schools with the lowest ratings to improve their teaching strategies to also improve their achievement test standings. Madamba added that with this result, it also showed the pupils under the city division are only good in sports and other extra-curricular activities bit also in the academic aspect, which is the most important part of the educational system. She went on to advise Grade VI pupils to further improve their academic skills as they prepare for secondary education. Dominic B. dela Cruz
