Assistant Laoag City engineer Fred Agpaoa announced on September 4 the completion of two road rehabilitation projects and on-going work in two more sites in the city included under the program of work for the P600,000 share of the local government from the Motor Vehicle User’s Charge (MVUC). “Asphalt patching of a portion of the Laoag-La Paz road and repair of the slope protection along Siazon-Agustin road in barangay Bacsil (56-B) have been completed while two other: resurfacing of the road and shoulder along Salet-Pasagui-Vintar road and; resurfacing and slope protection along Laoag-San Mateo-Lataag-Bacsil road are still on-going,” he said. Agpaoa said they were given a total of 140 days to complete maintenance work in all four sites. Carlina Cumigad, city budget officer, said, the city government have yet to receive the remaining half of the five percent (5%) share of the city, amounting to a total of P1.2, under the MVUC Special Local fund for 2005. “The other half can be claimed subject to liquidation of the first trance,” she said. This is the second time since the implementation of the MVUC that the city received its share from the tax paid by vehicle owners to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) upon the registration of their vehicles. Cumigad said, the first remittance in 2005 representing the 2004 collection amounted to almost P200,000 was similarly used in the rehabilitation of a portion of the Laoag-La Paz road.
