After winning reg’l tilt
- LC’s Brgy Balatong to compete in nat’l search

After topping the 2006 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards regional level search, Barangay Balatong of Laoag City again qualified for the national level of the same search, representing Region I.

Dr. Reynaldo Garo, Laoag City Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) director, made this announcement after he was informed by the DILG regional office through a fax message on September 7 that Barangay Balatong won the regional search for the city category with a rating of 93.67 percent.

With this development, Garo expressed hopes that this time around, the Laoag barangay would come away with the top prize in the national level. Last year, the same barangay bagged first runner-up honors in the said search.

The criteria for the selection of winners are: efficiency in operations (40 percent), effectiveness in serving the objectives of measurable programs (35 percent), and creativity and resourcefulness of mediators (25 percent).

Other regional winners in the said search are Barangay Lingsat in San Fernando City, La Union, second with 92.83 percent; Barangay VII in Vigan City, third with 85 percent; and Barangay Poblacion in Alominos City in Pangasinan, fourth with 69 percent.

Barangay San Agustin of Sarrat, Ilocos Norte also took second place honors with 88.50 percent under category B municipal level. Barangay Bannuar of San Juan Ilocos Sur won top honors in the said category with 88.67 percent.

Garo said for this year alone, the city already has two entries in national-level competitions, which are for the Kalasag Search and Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards search.

The Lupong Tagapamayapa search covers the period from June 2005 to July 2006.
