DPWH-INED II press corps organized

San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte—To come up with a better coordinated and responsible reporting with regards to the programs and activities of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), district engineer Ernesto Faraon of the DPWH’s second engineering district, has backed the forming of a media press corps that would bring better information dissemination and closer linkage to the DPWH office.

Recognizing the vital role of the media in acting as a bridge to the people, Faraon expressed optimism that the forming of a media press corps in his district would promote better working relationship with the media through responsible reporting and a transparency in the delivery of government services to the people, particularly on infrastructure development.

After the initial deliberation between media people covering the DPWH, the group came up with the objectives for the DPWH-INED II press corps, which include delivering fair, balanced and responsible reportage of the engineering district, particularly in concerns of public interest and community participation.

With the objectives formulated, the group proceeded with the elections where Cely Calonje-Paz of DWFB-Radyo ng Bayan elected as president.

Other officers of the newly formed press corps are: Andy Acosta of MBC-DZJC, vice president; Leilanie G. Adriano of The Ilocos Times, secretary; Revelyn Domingsil of DZVR-Bombo Radyo, treasurer; Rod Sadian of DZEA-CMN, auditor; and Randy Menor of ABS-CBN, business manager.

Other members of the press corps are Edmar Ines of DWFB-Radyo ng Bayan; Cristina Arzadon of the Philippine Information Agency and Philippine Daily Inquirer; Rene Lagadon of RPN 9-DZRL Batac; and Excel Guiang of the newly founded Ilocos Sentinel.

The oath-taking ceremony of the press corps’ officers was held at the engineering building in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte on September 19 with Fa Sison Almazan, president of Media Vision Interlink and Manila Bulletin correspondent as inducting officer.

The birth of the pioneering media press corps in Ilocos Norte’s second engineering district paves the way for the organization of a bigger press corps in the regional level, with Almazan being eyed as general president.

The regional election for a DPWH regional press corps is slated on September 26 ay the DPWH regional office in San Fernando City, La Union.
