Aside from holding seminars on how to cope against natural calamities, P/Supt. Wilson Lopez, Laoag City police chief, has suggested that the police also conduct counter-terrorism trainings. Lopez’s suggestion came out during a regular meeting of the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC), as the police chief said they should not only concentrate on natural calamities but also on man-made calamities that may also endanger human lives. It was in view of this that Lopez suggested a counter-terrorism training be held as soon as possible. Responding immediately to Lopez’s suggestion Ms Gloria F. Peralta, city administrator, instructed city Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Director Reynaldo Garo to assist Lopez in realizing the police chief’s plans. According to Garo, the counter-terrorism training would be participated in by barangay officials and tanods. The training would also be open to the general public. With the training set to be implemented, Lopez believes this would also prepare barangay officials and the people in general on how to cope with man-made calamities. Dominic B. dela Cruz
