After 2 straight wins
LC’s booth entry settles for third in 2006 Travel Mart

After ruling the roost in the last two years, Laoag City’s entry to the booth competition for this year’s Philippine Travel Mart settled for third place.

Ms Chevylle V. Fariñas, Laoag City Tourism and Social Concerns office chairperson, said she was a little disappointed with the result considering that the criteria for the judging in the booth contest called for the use of indigenous materials. However, she was sport enough to concede to eventual winners, the entries from Puerto Princesa City and Alaminos City, which finished first and second respectively.

Ms Fariñas also related that she did not expect the final results of the contest as she believed the city’s entry—a calesa—is very unique compared to other entries.

She clarified however that she has no intention to question the result since the decision of judges are considered irrevocable and final as she remained confident that the city would still win national and regional accolades in the future.

She further stated that the important thing in the Travel Mart event was the marketing of the city as a tourist destination.

Meanwhile, the city’s representative in the Bituin ng Kasuotang Filipino beauty contest, Margarette Yabes did not qualify for the finals.

Reacting to this, Laoag Mayor Michael V. Fariñas congratulated the city’s participants in the contest held at the SM Megatrade Hall on September 8 to 10.
