Lorenzo Ruiz, Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) Board pf Directors president, confirmed that current INEC general manager Romillas C. Pascual’s term has been extended again until December 31, 2006. According to Ruiz, Pascual’s term extension was unanimously approved by all members of the INEC board during the last regular meeting held in Dingras, Ilocos Norte. Pascual was supposed to retire after he celebrated his 60th birthday on September this year but the INEC board extended his term until November 2006. With the unanimous approval of a longer extension, Pascual’s first extension was disregarded and which would pave the way for the INEC general manager to be able to attend the general membership assembly on December 2, 2006. Pascual’s presence in the general assembly meeting, Ruiz said, was for the GM to answer any questions and problems that may be brought out by member-consumers during the former’s administration as general manager. Ruiz stressed that questions on INEC management, operations and policies during his incumbency can only be answered by Pascual. Ruiz added that this should also be considered as a “graceful exit” for the GM who would then retire with all the problems that cropped up during his term solved. Reacting to the extension, Pascual said he welcomes it and he accepted it because in a sense he still wants to be with all the INEC member-consumers in his last year of service. Pascual also emphasized that he would be ready to answer questions and queries during the general assembly. Meanwhile, Ruiz announced that INEC is now accepting applications for the soon-to-be vacated managerial position. In the selection process, Ruiz related, the INEC board will choose three qualified applicants, which would be forwarded and recommended to the National Electrification Administration (NEA). NEA will then do the background investigation of the applicants as well as the final selection. Ruiz added hat any member of the board, or even the management, can also apply for the position. The selection is also open to the public, provided the applicant meets the qualification standards and requirements set forth by NEA. If NEA would be unable to decide on the new INEC GM by December 31, an officer-in-charge would be appointed by INEC to serve as temporary general manager until NEA would be able to select the new INEC general manager.
