THE CITY Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and the city Philippine National Police (PNP) have been advised anew to strictly monitor beggars in Laoag as they have been reported to be alleged members of a syndicate. This was divulged by city administrator Gloria F. Peralta during the first regular staff meeting at the City Hall after the May midterm elections. According to Peralta, she said she received reports that some beggars are again being seen scattered around the city holding a list. She said she does not know what the list they are holding is for. Social Welfare and Development officer Aurora Corpuz promised to conduct strict monitoring as she said they have not noticed any beggars around the city in the past few days. She said she would task her employees to monitor the major thoroughfares if the city. Earlier, the CSWDO got busy apprehending Badjaos also roaming around the city. Corpuz said that with the help of the city police, they were able to clean up the city of the presence of the Badjaos. The city government later returned the Badjaos to their homes outside the province. Meanwhile, deputy police chief Constante Medina also promised that they would help in the monitoring as he stressed that the city police has always been on alert on this matter but their only problem is their lack of personnel. Medina however said he would ask the help of traffic enforcers in apprehending these beggars who are alleged to be members of a syndicate. Dominic B. dela Cruz
