LC dads express dismay in 2007 polls

Laoag City Councilor Modesto Melvin M. dela Cuesta, who lost his re-election bid, expressed dismay in the recently concluded May midterm elections saying there were massive vote buying.

“Adu met dagiti dati a kakadua ken dati da met nga aggat-gatang iti butos dagitoyen for the past election ngem diuray saanank a naggatang idi ket nakastrekak iti konseho. Konfidente ak manen ngem gapu to kaadu a naggatang iti naduma-duma a barangay isu nga saan tayon a nakastrek pay,” Dela Cuesta said.

However even if he was not re-elected, Dela Cuesta said he the public can still approach him for whatever assistance he may give.

With his political career taking a break for at least three years, Dela Cuesta said he would continue with his newspaper business as well as his being a radio commentator.

“Maka-ammun ton iti tao no kayat dak pay a pagsublien ta isu da met iti mangkeddeng wenno baka madismayaak to manen ta addan to man ginnatanganen ket maka-upay daytoy,” Dela Cuesta stressed.

Meanwhile, another councilor who lost his re-election bid, Councilor John P. Cabarrubias, said he has accepted his electoral defeat.

Cabarrubias also extended his thanks to those who supported him during the election.

“Saan a gapu ta siyak iti agsarita ken saan ngata met a siyak ti maudi no panagserbi iti siyudad iti pagsasaritaan,” Cabarrubias said.

When asked what he would do after his term ends, Cabarrubias said he would return to farming as well as his hollow block business. He added that he would also continue to help the public through his high school scholarship program.

Cabarrubias was a big help to Laoag farmers as he chaired the council’s committee on agriculture and his accomplishments in the field of agriculture helped him enormously.

In a related development, Laoag Councilor Constante F. Dancel Jr., who won his re-election bid, expressed his gratitude to those who supported his successful bid.

“Diuray tal-tallo kami, pulido daytoy ket iti gagem mi laeng ket tay pagsayaatan,” Dancel said.

Only three of the members of the opposition majority in the council won their re-election bid.

Dancel also said he believes the city government funds were used appropriately in the past three years when the opposition—named Reformist Block—dominated the council.

“Sapay la kuma ta dagitoy kabbaru a simrek ket natatakneng da met siguro ta saan da met siguro a paitur-turong ken mabut-buteng tapnon pagsayaatan iti Laoag ken kaaduan iti maipatungpal iti Sanggunian,” Dancel added.

Aside from the Dancel, the two other Reformist Block members who made it back to the council are Councilors Vicentito M. Lazo and Edison Chua.
