LC has new LCR chief

Ms Lilian Abijero, currently the community affairs officer of Laoag City was recently named as the city’s new Local Civil Registrar, after her appointment was unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod during its regular session last April 6.

The said position was declared vacant after the death of former civil registrar Edmund Tamayo’s death earlier this year, and only an officer-in-charge was appointed to look after the said office while city officials were looking for a permanent replacement.

Abijero, in accepting her new post, thanked Laoag City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas and the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the trust they have given her.

Abijero entered government service in 1976 and was named as the community affairs officer in 1995.

In an interview with the new civil registrar, Abijero said she would do her best in further bettering the service rendered by her new office.

Among the means she plans to do is to find ways to facilitate transactions as the civil registry office after she learned that several clients of the said office usually are forced to return to the LCR many times because of various reasons.

Abijero also said expressed her gratitude to her staff members at the CAO for their performance as she stressed that it was this office which was at the center of the accomplishments and awards garnered by the city, including the Hall of Fame award in the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran award, or the national search for the cleanest and greenest city, the Best Tourism Destination of the Year, and the Best Performing Peace and Order Council.

The CAO is also in the forefront of various city government projects and programs including the Oplan Dalus and the Rang-ay ti Barangay.

Abijero’s appointment to the LCR is expected to take effect after Fariñas approves the council resolution appointing her to the position.

The council resolution was sponsored by Laoag City Councilor Ruben P. Blanco.

Meanwhile, Fariñas sent her congratulations to the new LCR chief, who said he was confident of the performance of Abijero as she was a big “plus factor” for the city when it competed in national competitions as well as the local programs and activities of the city government.
