MVF, Partible to conduct surprise inspections
After receiving reports that police outposts in rural areas are being used for drinking sessions, Laoag City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas said he would conduct surprise inspections in the various outposts in the city to find out for himself if the reports are true. Fariñas said he considers the reports as “bad” as these outposts had been one of his pet projects to bring about peace and order in the city’s rural areas. Fariñas has also instructed P/Supt. Reynante Partible, city police chief, to investigate the report. The Ilocos Times learned that the first report on the matter was made to Laoag City Councilor Yvonne B. Ranada, wherein it was related that the police outpost in Barangay Dibua, which serves the city’s northwest district, had been used at times for drinking sessions. According to Ranada, she was personally told by some local residents in the area of the alleged incident during one of her visit to the said barangay. She then immediately relayed the report to Fariñas. Meanwhile, Partible, in a separate interview, expressed surprise on the report as he said his office has not received such. He assured however that he would also conduct unannounced inspections to all newly constructed police outposts. The Barangay Dibua outpost is one of the city’s newly constructed rural police outposts. The others are in Barangays San Mateo and Zamboanga. Partible added that those who would be found to have violated the law would be strictly dealt with. “Isu siguro pay iti maysa a rason a pang-gurguraan kaniyak dagiti pada a kapulisan ditoy siyudad iti kina istriktok ngem saan nga isu iti maka-ipawil kaniyak a mang disiplina kadakuada (My strictness maybe one of the reasons why other police officers in the city hate me but this would not prevent me from disciplining them),” Partible said. Earlier, Partible was rumored to be on the way out as he was accused of being a poor leader and always out of his office. Partible however debunk all the accusations as Fariñas also reiterated that he has no plans of relieving Partible. Dominic B. dela Cruz
