Department of Agrarian Reform Public Affairs Staff Director Hugo Yonzon has invited news writing experts from prominent media and has identified activities for the 18th CARP Anniversary celebration this coming June 2006 during the recently-concluded 1st Quarter Annual Convention of PAS/Regional and Provincial Information Officers of DAR on March 27 – 31, 2006 held at the Imperial Palace Suits, Quezon City. News plugging to DZRH-Manila giving significant topics since the start of the year is a continuous activity and also a way of disseminating regional news to become national coverage. Also, annual poster/slogan contest will be conducted and open to college students and holding of the sports festival. Synchronized conduct of motorcade, tree planting, trainings/seminars, trade fairs/exhibits and land title distribution, nationwide. Veteran radioman Rene Sta. Cruz of DZBB-Manila informed the participants the use of action words and descriptive objectives in presenting newsworthy news including the 5ws and 1h. Sta. Cruz does not believe in sensationalized reporting as long as it is based on facts and truth. Voice clips are as important as footage in radio and television respectively to support news. Marichu Villanueva of the Philippine Star told the participants news is considered good like the inclusion of human-interest stories with the corresponding source. Alex Tinsay of GMA TV-Channel 7 emphasized the addition of media to influence a student as it were only the home church and school that make and unmake them. Audience also wanted a round the clock news, hence, GMA 7 has “24 Oras”, news program and Chika Minute Patrol. Deo Macalma of DZRH-Manila gave the importance of camera and tape recorder in writing news for reference and described radio as news, information, entertainment and companion nowadays especially for housewives listening to soap operas. Macalma also added that broadcasting is an art that’s why emcees have their own style with ultimate goal not only to target ABC listeners by to reach also the CDE audience as the “bakya crowd.” The nationwide DAR Information Group during the convention toured GMA-Channel 7 also in the time for the live broadcast of “Sis”, visited DZRH, the first radio station in the Philippines, Philippine Daily Inquirer (considered as the no-ad front-page national daily) and SM Megamall where caricaturists have their exhibit together with Director Yonzon. PAS Asst. Director Norma Padigos formally closed the convention program by distributing certificates, gifts and bags and congratulated the information officers for their active participation.
