LC infra projects temporarily halted
WITH the election ban on various government projects now in place, the Laoag City Engineering Office (CEO) announced that all infrastructure projects appropriated in the 2007 annual budget will now be temporarily shelved. Assistant city engineer Fred Agpaoa made the announcement in reply to questions by barangay officials about their respective infrastructure projects. However Agpaoa said the engineering office has requested an exemption on ongoing projects whose appropriations were from last year’s budget through supplemental budgets. Among these projects include concrete pavements, rehabilitation of Day-Care Centers and Barangay Halls. With regards to projects affected by the election ban, Agpaoa noted that this had become untimely since some of the infrastructure projects lined-up for 2007 are for those damaged by past typhoons. He promised though that they would immediately implement these projects after the election ban has lapsed. Meanwhile, the CEO also announced that they are strictly monitoring all ongoing construction of buildings, whether they are private or residential, if they have been given the necessary building permits. Agpaoa said they have tapped the help of barangay officials in the monitoring. “Nalaka met a ma-determine ta no awan naka-paskil nga building permit diay paka-ipaspasdekan ket automatic nga awan pay permit na nukwa,” Agpaoa said.
