Filipino Global Summit all set in Sydney

Filipinos from all over the world are meeting in Sydney, Australia for the 5th Global Filipino Networking Convention. The international Filipino summit will be held from 6 to 8 September, 2007 at Holiday Inn, Rooty Hill, a suburb of Sydney.

The event is themed “Fair Go - For Filipino Empowerment” and coincides with the APEC Summit which will have the world leaders of 21 member nations in attendance. It is anticipated that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who will be attending the APEC meeting, will be able address the Filipino global conference subject to approval of Australia’s security taskforce.

“Fair Go” is an Aussie slang that means equal opportunity. The conference aims to looks at the real issues that confront Filipinos globally and addresses them in an effort to give Filipinos a “fair go.”

Already, Filipinos from 8 countries to include United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Kuwait, Egypt, Japan, China, Singapore, Korea, USA, and the Philippines have pledged their attendance.

The event is an initiative of the National Federation of Filipino Americans (NAFAA), the Global Filipinos Australia (GFA), The Filipino Communities Council of Australia (FILCCA) and the Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC). Atty. Lolita Farmer, OAM, GFA president and Malyn Andres-Chun, FILCCA president have joined forces to stage this international event.

“It’s a mammoth task,” said Farmer “but it’s time to have a closer look at Filipino Diaspora and the effects it’s had on the Philippines.

“It is time Filipinos are given due respect and recognition all over the world,” said Malyn Andres-Chun. “If we are to achieve this profile we have to show the world that we are a force to reckon with,” she adds.

The Filipino global conference further aims to uplift the Filipinos image overseas. All Filipinos are welcome to participate in this event of paramount significance and are advised to contact the Global secretariat or by checking the website - www.gfnc-sydney.org.
