LC ‘bagsakan’ area relocation proposed anew
Laoag City Councilor Mariolito J. Carag said he is currently studying a proposal that would establish a permanent “bagsakan” area, or offloading area for products to be sold at the Laoag City Commercial Complex. The said proposal was presented during the 6th Sangguniang Panlungsod by former Councilor Modesto Melvin M. dela Cuesta but it was disapproved. Carag added that the proposed “bagsakan” area would be located near the Central Terminal in Barangay 1. Carag explained that the establishment of a permanent offloading area for products to be sold at the market would be primarily as an income-generating measure and at the same time to decrease traffic congestion in the city’s commercial area. Presently, the offloading area is anywhere around the LCCC, which creates traffic especially during open market days. With the establishment of a permanent offloading area, Carag said both wholesalers and retailers would be forced to go there. Carag also said he will also propose a separate offloading area for marine products as he said fish deliveries around the LCCC have caused odor problems. In a related development, Laoag Councilor Derick Lao said he would also propose the establishment of a “Dayo” in the city. According to Lao, most towns in the province have “Dayo” except for Laoag City as he said his proposal would also become an income-generating project for the city government. Lao said he would consult with farmers, with respect to his proposal as he divulged that city agriculturist Oscar Recta has favored his proposal. Lao further mentioned that the said measure would be presented to the city council on the proper time. Dominic B. dela Cruz
