New PNRC-LC lab now operational
PHILIPPINE National Red Cross-Laoag City-Ilocos Norte Chapter administrator Edna Orcino recently announced that the newly constructed laboratory room in the said office is now operational. The said laboratory was built through the donation of the Ilocos Norte Water District, wherein Orcino was very thankful. INWD, through the leadership of general manager John Teodoro and board president Emeric Asuncion, donated an estimated P270,000 for the completion of the said laboratory. The original laboratory room, Orcino said, was a wooden structure located at the second floor of the PNRC building, where blood donors often complain after blood extraction as they would feel woozy and accidents might occur since they would still have to go down a flight of stairs after. As a result, Orcino suggested that the laboratory room be transferred to the first floor of the building and be built in concrete for better sanitation. This project however cannot be implemented by the PNRC as most of its funds are devoted almost exclusively to their programs and services. With the newly constructed laboratory, Orcino is hopeful that new equipments would also be acquired soon, including a new blood bank storage. She clarified though that the current equipments they are using are all still operational. Meanwhile, aside from the construction of the laboratory room, INWD board president Asuncion is also shouldering the rehabilitation of the PNRC third floor at his own personal expense. Asuncion is also a member of the PNRC board of directors. Dominic B. dela Cruz
