At the height of the MOR 95.5 Anniversary Celebration held at the newly inaugurated 365 Mall in Brgy. 1, San Nicolas, a riot ensued between members of the Samahang Ilocano (S.I) fraternity and the Delta Sigma fraternity at around 9:20 pm of Sunday, August 19. According to eyewitnesses and the police report, the incident happened in front of David’sTea House. However, the swift response of elements of the San Nicolas Municipal Police as well as the security personnel of the Venvi Group, the owners of the 365 mall. prevented what could have been a far more serious and even bloody encounter Aside from quelling the disturbance, police were able to confiscate a loaded cal. 38 Special (homemade) with serial number 31625, in the possession of a certain Jovelan A. Baria, 21 years old, single, a resident of Bgy.9,Laoag City, and reportedly a member of the Samahang Ilocano fraternity. Mr. Baria is currently detained at the Provincial Jail pending the filing of charges in court. There are also reports that some influential people including a retired colonel have been ringing up local officials in San Nicolas asking that the offender be released. “Paarbor na lang daw” said our source who declined to be identified. Sources however have disclosed that despite this, the Venvi Group is seriously contemplating pursuing a case against the suspect.
