The Department of Land Reform (DLR)-Ilocos Norte recently celebrated the 17th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) by holding an inter-office sports festival, a provincewide poster-making contest, and radio news plugging. In the sports fest held at the Scratch Pen in Batac, Ilocos Norte on June 17, 2005, DLR Ilocos Norte employees competed with one another in various events. In the Bingo-five games, the grand prize of P4,000 went to Eulalia Ziganay of the Accounting Office. Other Bingo winners are: Rosemarie Gante of Burgos DLR, P3,000; Lolita Galang of DLR-Laoag City, P2,500; Cheryl Calantoc of Operations, P2,000; and Marilyn Tabones also of Operations, P1,000. In the bowling event, the DLRPO emerged as champion, taking home the P1,500 cash prize. District II took second place honors and the P1,000 cash prize, while District I settled for third and the P500 cash prize. The “Amazing Race” inspired contest saw District I taking top honors and the P2,000 prize. DLRPO and District II grabbed second and third place honors respectively with prizes of P1,500 and P1,000 each. For the poster-making contest held at the Provincial Capitol Auditorium on June 30, Mark Kevin Topinio of Mariano Marcos State University-Institute of Technology (MMSU-IT) grabbed top honors. Other winners were: Eilish Czane Ramos of MMSU-College of Education, second place; Daniel Duque of Data Center College, third place; and Maria Mercedes dela Cruz of Data Center College, James Randy Reyes of Northwestern University (NWU), Jerick Smith Asuncion of NWU, Christian Wakil also of NWU, and Jefferson Domingo of MMSU-IT were given honorable mentions. In the national poster-making contest, Justin Navarro of MMSU became one of the finalists. In addition to these events, the provincial DLR office also sent radio news plugging to DZRH through the DLR regional office, and to local radio stations, DZEA, DZJC and DZVR. A tree-planting activity in Marcos, Daquioag, where 400 seedlings were planted, was also held on June 14. Milton P. Pascua, provincial agrarian reform officer, expressed his gratitude to the organizers of these events in his speeches during two separate occasions.
