Laoag City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas has expressed his gratitude in advance to the McDonald Corporation after a senior vice president of the said fastfood chain talked to the mayor about the possibility of putting up a Day-Care Center to be funded by the said company. A McDonald’s representative visited the city last week as she stressed that their company wishes to put up a Day Care Center in Laoag provided the city government would meet the requirement of owning the lot. As a result, Fariñas immediately looked for a possible lot and it was immediately identified that a lot just beside the new Philippine National Police (PNP) building is available. Fariñas also disclosed that last week, the said representative personally inspected the proposed location and she agreed in principle but mentioned that it would still her “higher-ups” that would give the final decision. The representative said the result would be known not later than next month. Based on their conversation, Fariñas said McDonald’s would provide the complete amenities, including the construction of the building with the city government only responsible for the lot. With this kind of opportunity, the mayor said he is hopeful that this project would prosper as it would also cater to the children of police officers, City Engineering Office employees, whose offices are located nearby the lot as well as nearby residents although there is already an existing Day-Care Center in Barangay 1.
