Peaceful and orderly barangay search
2 LC brgys named to hall of fame

Barangays 51-A Nangalisan East and 23 San Matias had been named into the Hall of Fame of the Laoag City search for the most peaceful and orderly barangay search after both barangays won inn their respective categories again during last year’s search.

Joseph Tamayo, Laoag City Community Affairs officer, made this announcement as he explained that the induction into the Hall of Fame of the two barangays in the said search was because of their garnering the title for three consecutive years. They won the award in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

As Hall of Fame inductees, Barangays 51-A and 23 should maintain the standards that had made them win the search, otherwise their induction would be withdrawn.

The awarding has been set tentatively on February 3 and would serve as one of the sidelights of the 2006 Pamulinawen Festival.

For this year’s edition of the search, winners will receive P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 for the first, second and third placers respectively in the urban and rural barangays category.

Barangays that would make it to the top 13 in the urban and rural barangays category are also set to receive P5,000 each, but this would still depend on whether the Sangguniang Panlungsod would be able to approve the city government’s 2006 budget as the funding for this had been incorporated in the said annual budget.

Meanwhile, the search for the cleanest and greenest barangay and school committees are still finalizing the winners of the said competition as Tamayo said they are having a hard time in computing and validating the final tally since it had become a very close contest and there may again be ties.

Barangay Suyo and 14 won last year’s clean-and-green search for rural and urban categories respectively.
