IN THE midst of opposition to his leadership, Atty. Eduardo T. Obero, revenue district officer of Ilocos Norte and Laoag City, gained support from Bantay-Bayan Foundation-Ilocos Norte Chapter, a non-government organization engaged in civic activities in the province. In a four-page assessment report it submitted to its national office, the foundation said revenue collections in the province and the city have achieved significant increases since the assumption of Obero into office. Basing its report on the Comparative Collection of the Revenue District of Ilocos Norte and Laoag City for years 2001-2006, the foundation said that it was during the term of Obero from 2004 to 2006 where revenue collections reached its peak. It further observed that within the aforesaid three-year term of Obero, the revenue district of Laoag City and Ilocos Norte reached its new collection levels of more than P400,000,000 in 2004 and 2005, and more than P500,000,000 in 2006. These figures, according to the foundation are considerable in the sense that during the pre-Obero term, particularly from 2001 to 2003, the collection has been dormant at the P300,000,000 level. The report further stated that with the continued leadership of Obero, revenue collections will continue to maintain its fine level. Bro. Salvador “Bob” Villarante, the provincial chairman of the foundation clarified that the assessment report was made in compliance with the order of the national office.
