the Philippines fell victim to a ticket scam in the United States. On
Wednesday, the group went to the house of Lily Anne Sison-Lee in San Jose,
who sells roundtrip tickets to the Philippines. They paid Sison-Lee but
never received the tickets. Sison-Lee has disappeared since Thursday and
has not returned calls.Ethel Cavan, a victim of the alleged ticket scam,
knocked on Sison-Lee’s home and said, “Hoy! Ibalik mo na sa amin ang
pera!”Cavan paid for 3 roundtrip tickets to the Philippines worth $750
each. She was told that she would get her flight itinerary only 3 days
before the flight.Normally, when you buy your ticket, you immediately get
it online, your e-ticket. That was a red flag for me,” Cavan said.
Another victim, Charles De La Cruz, said he and his family bought 16
roundtrip tickets to the Philippines for a family wedding.

MANILA, Philippines - Vice-Mayor and incoming Mayor Maja Sales of Pagudpud
survived a slay try at the boundary of Burgos and Bangui towns in Ilocos
Norte Monday afternoon.

Police said Sales was on her way to Laoag when armed men started shooting
at her vehicle past 4 p.m. On board the vehicle were Sales, Bombo Radyo
Assistant Manager Estelita Baktista, three security guards -- Mario Monge,
Fhertopel Caletena, Bernardo Salvasion -- and the driver, Joselito
Rangasan.

Baktista said they were able to evade the assailants but not before
Caletena and Monge were shot and killed. Rangasan sustained a bullet wound
on the shoulder and is still recuperating.

Sales, Baktista and Salvasion were unharmed in the incident.

Police said the assailants used M-16 rifles in the ambush.

The camp of the Mayor-elect said the attack could be politically motivated

Teach your children how to speak "English" in your home and any place in
the country.

Start when the child is born. Do not teach them to speak any dialect except
"ENGLISH".

I disagree on what Dr. Hubert Antog is trying to propose to restrict the
teaching of the Filipino dialect to a child in favor of the English
language. To abandon your own dialect is very disrespectful to your
beloved country. How are you going to teach a child to speak English only
when both parents (the "older generations") can't even speak English? That
is a big uphill to overcome. Instead, why not take(learn) English as
your second language since it seems like it is the universal language these
days. English should be introduced at school from day one. Once you become
fluent in English (spoken and in writing), you will be ahead of the curve.

What Dr. Antog should stress is to complete your education whatever that
might be. Once you have completed your education, you have the tools to do
whatever you want. You can stay at home and go abroad if the opportunity
present itself. Telling people to leave the country is absurd.
