TWO VICTIMS, identified as geodetic engineer Jessie Suguitan, 40 years old, married and a resident of Barangay 24, Laoag City, and Lutgarda Asuncion, alias Lolit, of legal age, a resident of Barangay 8 also of Laoag City and a former secretary of Suguitan, were found dead inside the Semana Ruiz Building, located at the corner of Gen. Luna and Balintawak Sts. in Laoag.
The police said they received a telephone call informing them of a shooting incident in the said location wherein elements of the Laoag City police were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The police officers responding to the incident, led by P/Insp. Ronaldo Mingaracal, reported that the victims were already dead when they arrived.
Initial results of the investigation show that prior to the shooting incident, both victims were quarreling with each other inside the office of Suguitan, located on the third floor of the said building.
The victims’ bodies were found at the stairs leading to the third floor office of Suguitan.
Police recovered a caliber .22 revolver at the scene. The gun has no serial number and contained five empty shells and one live ammunition.
Laoag City police chief P/Supt. Wilson Joseph F. Lopez said they consider the case as “solved” after they also recovered a suicide letter purportedly written by Asuncion before the incident.
According to Lopez, he theorized that Asuncion shot Suguitan several times first before she turned the gun to herself.
In the post-mortem examination conducted by city health officer Dr. Renato Mateo, it was found out that Suguitan had three gunshot wounds—two on his chest and one on his head, behind the right ear.
A gunshot wound point of entry was also observed on the right temporal lobe of Asuncion.
