Currimao, Ilocos Norte—Former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos wants to maximize the potentials of the Currimao Seaport by developing it into a distribution channel of shipping vessels bound from the east and west, particularly, the People’s Republic of China. During her personal inspection of the international seaport located in Barangay Gaang, Currimao on May 3, the former first lady recognized the value of the Currimao port as a major area of development as almost all or at least 90 percent of commodity goods distribution is through shipping lines. “They say that east and west can never meet but we can do it if we could maximize the potential of every individual and this nation will be great again,” Mrs. Marcos said. According to her, today’s problem is not resources but distribution, hence she noted that there’s a need to continue and enhance the infrastructure development of the seaport as logistic center of inbound and outbound shipping vessels to boost not only the economy of the province but also the country. She pointed out however that she is not campaigning for a particular candidate to continue the Marcos vision to put the Philippines in the world map of progress but she is campaigning for the Filipino peoples’ battle cry for peace and prosperity. With the proximity of China to Ilocos Norte, Imelda said the establishment of a Chinese consulate in Laoag is indeed the beginning of a more dynamic economic exchange and partnership between the Philippines and China.
