MVF’s son accused of vote-buying

Laoag City Tourism and Social Concerns Council (LCTSCC) Chair Chevylle V. Fariñas was unable to hold back tears during an interview with the local media after her son, Jami, was accused of buying votes.

The accusation came after a record written in the Laoag City police blotter was reported where it was stated that Jami Fariñas, son of Laoag Mayor Michael V. Fariñas was allegedly buying votes at Barangay 12 here during the time when the Fariñas camp was conducting house-to-house campaign and rally at the said area.

The city police immediately launched an investigation on the matter but the result was negative.

The allegation supposedly from former Fariñas aide Clarence Ramos, who is now running for councilor under the opposition party.

“In all honesty, nasaktanak. Saan kad pay nga umanay ta panangper-perdi yo tay kinatao ta asawak tapno laeng maitag-ay kayo? Is it not enough a pati siyak, tay anak ko a bassit ket mairam-ramanen ket ita tay kay-kaysona nga anak ko a lalaki ti gagem na tulungan tay ama na ket iram-raman yo pay,” Ms Fariñas said, directly addressing it to the people concerned.

Fariñas then appealed to the people to first verify any raw information or accusation they would come across before giving out the information.

“As a mother, I protect my children at all costs. I cannot take this accusation by sitting down ta per-perdien yon iti kinatao ta anak kon and I believe addan to met pay nasayaat a masakbayan na and here you are ak-akusaran yo isunan a saan kay pay sigurado and the investigation came up nga awan kinapudno na. Ana ngarud ita ket the damage has been done,” Fariñas stressed.

Despite of the incident, she said her family will still continue to lend their strong presence to her husband’s re-election bid.

She also clarified that the place pointed to be where the vote-buying occurred was actually the residence of her son’s former girlfriend and during the time when the supposed incident happened, the girl was out of the house and it was the mother who entertained Fariñas’ son.

The Ilocos Times tried to reach Ramos for his comment but he was unavailable as of press time.
